My name is Heather Van Raden. I am a Seattle-based artist working in watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and digital mediums. I was born and raised in Iowa and my art tends to reflect so much of the nature I grew up appreciating.
With the nature I grew up around in mind, I am always diligent to purchase supplies responsibly, use said materials thoughtfully, and to reuse trash and recycling within my art.
Making art with aphantasia, the inability to visualize images, my work is driven by emotion, texture, and gut feelings rather than mental imagery. My process is overall intuitive with technical control to create expressive, atmospheric compositions.
