“Smith Tower”

This is a piece made with my reference of the Smith Tower in the downtown Seattle, Washington. I took a photo on my way to work and was amazed to see it was a half decent photo for being half asleep while taking it.

The structures/castles/houses I had previously painted were much more vague and certainly wouldn't pass government safety inspection of any kind. I dare think the ones painted here with the Smith Tower could.

"Light of the Day"

This piece is the embodiment of sunlight streaking across, under, and through the thick curtains to assault my eyeballs during a migraine. The light works across the floor and changes in the setting sun.

"Bubble"

This is an acrylic painting that was done with reference of a soap bubble magnified magnificently. The bright colors and strong shapes is a reminder of how complex even the small things tend to be.

"Carkeek"

This large painting is from the view of Carkeek park, looking towards Bainbridge Island in the distance. A sailboat with white canvas sails moves in the distance. Concrete panels covered in moss, and add a strange, inorganic physical and visual structure.

"Outgoing Tide"

This is an acrylic painting of rocks shining in the water of the outgoing tide. The gleaming rocks, sea glass, and various bits of organic debris create an alluring pattern of bright rocks awash in the ebbing tide. Searching for the tumbled sea glass in these rocks is, for myself, both a calming activity and a treasure hunt.

“Hazy Morning”

Hazy Morning is an Impressionist-style painting looking up a street in downtown Seattle. Dense white fog hides the tallest buildings. It was a bit dark and chilly when I took the reference photo.

The way the buildings share space with trees, wires, and vehicles at such a steep angle felt especially striking to me.

"Blue Zen"

This is an acrylic painting that shows tall, brown and red cliffs over a blue rippling basin. The tree and the ripples are inspired by the beauty of Zen gardens.

The height of the cliffs shows the tranquility that such an empty, quiet space could offer.
